Belkisara can now see the world

Belkisara Bohara, 65, a resident of of Chhayanath Rara Municipality, Ward No. 13, Mugu, Nepal, came to the District Eye Treatment Center, Mugu, after finding out about  free eye treatment camp.

Belkisara, who was admitted to the camp after hearing the news of free eye camp on the radio, is happy after the successful treatment of cataracts. ‘Eye surgery was free. Now I can see and see as well as others, ‘she said happily when she regained her sight.

The free eye check-up camp was organized by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh District Eye Treatment Center Mugu and was conducted with the financial and technical support of Himalayan Eye Hospital Gharipatan Pokhara and Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Integrated Ear & Eye Health Program,  Karnali Province.

A total of 91 cataract patients were treated in the three-day free eye camp. According to Tilak Bahadur Malla, Central Vice President of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangha, 904 eye patients were given free check-ups.

Bohara said that if she had not received the free treatment in the eye camp, she had to go to big cities like Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Kathmandu. She said that the money saved was enough to buy herself nutritious food and fruits. Vice President Malla said that the people in the rural areas would be greatly relieved if such health treatment camps were conducted in the villages.
