Big-hearted “Piyari Aama”

In a small house showing the lush green field next to the housde, Piyari Gurung says, “This used to be mine; I donated it to the school, I coulnot study back then but others can study now.”

Piyari Gurung, aged 96, resides in Kavasoti Municipality-4, Nawalpur, in Nepal. She is widely respected and known as “Piyaari Aama” Although her house is small, her heart is big.  She has donated all her property to the school.

She donated eight kattha (a unit of land measurement in Nepal) of land in her name to Saraswati Ma Vidyalaya in Kavasoti-4 . Being childless and with her husband deceased, she lives alone in a small house, accompanied only by the walls of her house.

Her house is situated within the land she donated to the school. She continues to support others, she even donates her deceased husband’s  pension she gets though the Indian Army. Her particular interest lies in supporting the school.

Piyari Gurung contributes money from time to time for the school’s development. She has the sentiment of helping others, and she has been providing support to the school whenever needed.

Not seeking anything from others and not asking for anything in return, Piyari Gurung’s nature is to assist and contribute. Because of the huge donation made to the school, the school has honored her by creating a memorial pillar in her name.

The Education Section Chief, Kshetra Bahadur Bhandari, Kavasoti Municipality, shares, “Piyari Gurung’s selfless donation for the development of education is significant, and we need to increase donors’ motivation. That’s why we are building the Piyari Gurung Memorial Pillar as a token of respect.”
