Harka Sampang Rai – The newly elected Mayor of Dharan
Born on February 27, 1983 at Khotang, Kopilabasgadi Rural Municipality -2,Harka Sampang Rai is the newly elected Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City. He has a Bachelor Degree in politics & Sociology from Mahendra Multiple Campus, Dharan
He gave his candidacy in the local elections of 2079 with the symbol ‘Stick’ . He secured 20,821 votes defeating his opponent Kishor Rai from Nepali Congress who secured 16,059 votes.
In the previous Local Level Election Harka Sampang secured 5th position with 422 votes.
In most of his advocacy campaigns and electoral campaign Harka fought like a one man army. He used to campaign alone in his auto-rikshaw with a mic and speaker in different places of Dharan during his electoral campaign and his political opponents saw no threat from him. But to their surpise, the people of Dharan elected him as the Mayor.
He started to work as a social worker and anti-corruption activist through songs and been always independently fighting for the people of Dharan with practically no support since the last 10 years.
He is well known for his work against corruption, fight for preservation of natural resources and his advocacy to fulfill the daily basic needs of Dharan like water & electricity.
Harka was involved in agriculture work from his early stage of life. Like most of the Nepalese youth, Harka went to Malaysia , Iraq and Afghanistan for employment. After he returned to Nepal he started his career as a Auto-Rikshaw Driver and now also owns some Auto Rikshaw’s.
