Sapana Roka Magar : From homeless to one of the most influential women of 2020
In a world teeming with inspiring stories of individuals defying odds, Sapana Roka Magar’s remarkable journey shines like a beacon of hope. Hailing from Nepal, Sapana’s path from a humble crematorium worker/ Social worker to being recognized as one of the 100 most influential women of 2020 by the BBC is a testament to the power of determination and resilience.
Roka’s roots trace back to Myagdi District in Nepal, She was bornon 10 February 2002 as the youngest offspring of Jit Prasad Roka Magar (father) and Nanu Roka Magar (mother). At the young age of 14, she made a decision contrary to her parents’ wishes by moving in with a teenage boy. Regrettably, this relationship disintegrated within a matter of months, rendering her homeless.
Wandering the streets as a homeless girl, Roka encountered with a local NGO Action for Social Change. Through this fateful encounter, she embarked on a journey of transformation, participating in a range of social activities that have now become her vocation. From this platform, she sis involved in the cremation processes of unclaimed dead people and engages in various social initiatives.

Additionally, Roka’s humanitarian efforts extend to providing sustenance for the homeless during the COVID-19 lockdown in Kathmandu, underscoring her commitment to altruism and community welfare.

Shas passed class 12 board exams with 3.5 GPA this year.
