The Swedesh man who bicycled from Sweden to Nepal , climbed Mt. Everest and biked home
Goran Kropp, pronounced as YOU’REon, lived a life far from mediocrity. Hailing from Sweden, he was an adventure enthusiast who embarked on his extraordinary journey at the age of 6.
During his early years, while most children were busy in childly stuffs, Goran climbed Galdhøppigen, the highest peak in Norway, alongside his father. After school, he joined the Swedish parachute rangers, subjecting himself to a self-imposed rigorous training regimen.
Goran’s unconventional approach included setting his alarm clock for random early morning hours, marching 30km or 60km in full gear depending on the waking time, preparing himself for the unexpected challenges life might throw at him.
Crafting a physique of steel, Goran began conquering mountains solo. At the age of 22, he successfully summited Lenin Peak (23,405 ft) alone. With the dream of climbing Cho Oyu, Goran set out to conquer everything in his path.

However, it was his 1996 expedition to Nepal that brought Goran into the limelight. In October 1995, he embarked on an epic journey, cycling from Sweden to Nepal to climb Mt Everest. Covering over 12,000km (7,000 miles) through Eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, and Nepal, carrying 108kg (240lb) of gear and food, he arrived at the Everest Base Camp in April 1996.

Along the way, Goran faced numerous challenges, including being pelted with rocks, chased off the road, assaulted with a baseball bat, and changing 132 flat tires. Arriving at Everest during one of its most notorious storms, the same blizzard that claimed the lives of eight people, Goran was involved in rescue efforts and medical supply distribution at the Everest base camp.

Three weeks later, Goran became the first climber to attempt the summit after the storm, achieving this feat without bottled oxygen or sherpa assistance. Not content with personal triumphs, in 1999, he and his girlfriend climbed Everest again as part of a clean-up project, making Renata Chumskla the first Swedish woman to climb Everest.

Tragically, on September 30, 2002, Goran Kropp lost his life due to head injuries sustained during a fall while ascending the Air Guitar route near Frenchman Coulee in Vantage, Washington.
Goran Kropp’s life and legacy serve as an inspiration to millions, emphasizing the lessons that can be learned from nature and the importance of giving back.
