Nepal starts selling 177 MW energy to India
As part the Energy Co-operation between Nepal & India, Nepal has started selling 177.7 MW energy to India through its power exchange market. It is the first time that Nepal is exporting such huge quantity energy through the power exchange market.

It is during the recent visit of Nepali PM Sher Bahadur Deuba that India had turned positive on the export of surplus electricity from Kathmandu.
The two neighboring nations had agreed on a joint power sector cooperation through which both sides will conduct a bi-directional power trade with appropriate access to electricity markets in both countries based on mutual benefits, market demand and applicable regulations of the respective nations.
Nepal is selling at Rs. 7.04 unit. The highest price for Nepal exported electricity has been maintained at Rs. 2 per unit whereas the lowest rate is going to be Rs. 1.49 per unit, as per the statement issued by Nepal Electricity Authority.
The total power production in Nepal at the time is 2,300 MW and some projects are likely to start operating by the end of the current fiscal year.
