95 year old Shanthamma creating history
At the age when most people spend time with grandchildren or devote their time for prayers and visiting temples or some simply confined to their homes. Shanthamma is going to enter the Guinness Book of Records. Despite of her knee problems which were operated , she walls with the help of crutches.
95-year-old Shanthamma travels 60 km everyday on local transport and goes straight into the classroom and teaches the students at Centurion University.
Prof. Santhamma teaches medical physics, radiology and anesthesia at Centurion University in Vizianagaram, Thirukuri. Her research expertise spans many domains like laser technology and fuel impurity detection. Seventeen students have completed PhD in Physics under her guidance. She has done Inter in AVN College, Honors in Andhra University and M.Sc. After research, she joined Andhra University as a lecturer in 1947, right after the Indian independence. Since then, Shanthamma’s teaching and research has never stopped.
Born on March 8, 1929 in Machilipatnam, Krishna District & educated in Rajahmundry Visakhapatnam, Shantamma received Gold Medal in Physics while studying in AVN College.
She has translated the Bhagavad Gita into English and Telugu. She has researched 29 sutras of Vedic mathematics and published them in seven volumes. She has done many researches for the relief of cancer patients.
Shantamma is the oldest professor in the world. Shanthamma sayshas recently stated that one of her disciple Raju has said that he will suggest her name to the Guinness Book people. May her last wish to write her name in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest professor come true.
